Supplier relationship management and supply chain
collaboration have been with us for several years. And they have
appeared under various guises such as partnering, alliances and
consortiums, to name three. Today, they are perhaps more pertinent than
ever. But now these approaches can be more effectively integrated to
create value and build sustainable relationships.
The current economic pressures, a greater need for
innovation in the supply chain, and the emergence of alternative
business models place the purchasing and supply community at the
forefront of business change.
The publication of BS 11000, the world’s first
national standard for collaborative business relationship management,
provides us with the opportunity to consider the key influences. And it
helps us to manage the processes and effects of collaboration
consistently, thereby enabling us to meet the challenges of the next
decade and beyond.
