A new initiative to strengthen links between large and small US manufacturers by boosting collaboration and innovation has been launched by the Clinton Global Initiative.
The National Supply Chain Network Initiative (NSNI) launched yesterday, will be piloted in New York’s Hudson Valley and operate to connect small suppliers with large scale manufacturers in order to strengthen the supply chain.
GlobalFoundries, AutoHarvest Foundation, Connectory, Hudson Valley Technology Development Centre and the Center for Economic Growth and Connect will pool their resources and contacts and run the pilot, which will include physical and online networking events.
Mike Russo, senior manager of global relations at GlobalFoundries, said: “Large manufacturers need to be able to easily identify smaller manufacturers who are able to supply needed goods and smaller manufacturers need to know where their potential markets lie and have access to the latest innovation in order to improve manufacturing processes and product design. The CGI has provided the vehicle for those now engaged in the NSNI to come together to identify and solve this fundamental problem.”
The long-term plan, which depends on the success of the pilot, is to scale up the scheme to cover the manufacturing sector across the US. Key areas the programme will work to address include access to finance, developing sustainability and promoting innovation.
