The Royal Mint’s Supplier Awards 2012 was “bigger and better” than the inaugural event, as CEO Adam Lawrence predicted last year.
Some 300 people attended the event last night at The Vale Hotel in Wales, as part of the ‘working together’ programme, which was first launched by the manufacturer of coins and commemorative medals in January 2010.
In her opening speech, Gail Roberts, head of supply chain and procurement, said: “This programme underpins who we are and governs what we do within the Royal Mint supply chain.
“This year we concentrated on sustainability and managing risk in the supply chain. It has been recognised by key external supply chain bodies as an exemplar of best practice for strategic relationship management and has allowed us to achieve many accolades in the past 12 months.”
She said one of the Royal Mint’s core values was recognising and rewarding success and the night’s event was the epitome of this.
More than 50 suppliers entered the awards and the calibre of the entries led Royal Mint to add a further two awards. The eight winners were:
1. Technical innovation – Integrated Effluent Solutions (IES)
2. Product innovation and continuous improvement – Cookson’s Sempsa
3. Working in partnership (direct materials) – Ming Feng Packaging
4. Working in partnership (indirect materials) – Abacus Recruitment Limited
5. Best contribution to environmental and sustainable supply – Zenith Print & Packaging
6. Overall delivery and quality performance – TATA Steel
7. Contractor and service provider of the year – The Word
8. Supplier of the year – Cookson’s Semspa
The organisation also took the opportunity to celebrate one of its biggest years. It was proud to be the official supplier of victory medals and commemorative coins for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012. Roberts said that there had been many challenges along the way but it was extremely rewarding to have played a part in this piece of history.
