Buyers at Surrey County Council will be expected to share their knowledge and experience of innovative purchasing projects in future.
Newly-hired Temidayo Akenroye is responsible for establishing best purchasing practices and improvements in policy development at the authority. He is leading the delivery of continuing professional development programmes and intends to establish a knowledge-sharing portal for the council’s 60-strong team of procurement staff.
“The procurement team is quite innovative. We have adopted new ways of achieving value for money, but this needs to be captured and shared properly around the whole team,” he said.
“We already organise knowledge-share events to up-skill staff, but the portal will go further by documenting best practice and helping procurement staff find solutions to purchasing problems.”
Akenroye is also carrying out a gap analysis to determine which public sector buying best practices are not yet incorporated into the Surrey’s procurement policies.
He left his position as lead-procurement and tendering support at NHS Halton and St Helens to start work at the council last month. He reports to performance and development manager Derek Lancaster.
Surrey has an annual budget of around £600 million and purchasers have a £30 million projected savings target for this financial year.
