The company behind Monopoly, Game of Life and the Mr Potato Head toy has released details on its core third party vendors and factories to make its supply chain more transparent.

Hasbro’s first corporate social responsibility (CSR) report, published this week, said the company has released the details to address and sustain “strong CSR principles”. The online version of the report includes a link to a document that lists 26 suppliers that make up 80 per cent of the company’s Far East supply chain. The suppliers, all based in China, include Camei Industrial, Early Light Industrial and Lucky Bell Plastic Factory. Aside from the suppliers listed, Hasbro owns and operates two factories of its own, in the US and Ireland.

In a foreword to the report, Brian Goldner, president and CEO of Hasbro, said: “I believe it will be the companies who recognise, systematically address and sustain strong CSR principles, and view such practices as a strategic imperative that will enjoy the greatest success today and well into the future.”

In the report, the company also pledged to have a PVC-free supply chain by 2013. Since the material does not decompose, using it in products poses environmental issues for companies. They can take measures to recycle the material, which can then be repurposed to make shoe soles or swimming pool covers or substitute it for more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Duncan Billing, chief global development officer at Hasbro, said: “We are fully committed to sustainable packaging and that’s why we are actively pursuing ourgoal to eliminate PVC from all Hasbro core toy and game packaging beginning in 2013. It’s acomplex undertaking, but our world-class product and packaging designers and engineers are upfor the challenge.”

In October, Hasbro rival and owner of the Barbie brand of toys Mattel, revealed that it intends to increase the proportion of recycled materials in its packaging to 70 per cent by the end of the year.
