5 October 2011 | Angeline Albert

Fujitsu’s vice-president of global procurement, Guy Allen, resigned from his role on Friday after five years at the company.

Supply Management understands the departure was “mutually agreed” between Allen and the ICT-based business services company, but Allen was not able to comment on the move.

A spokesman for Fujitsu said: "Allen resigned to pursue another career path. We are not looking to replace Guy Allen. There will no longer be a vice-president of global procurement."

Allen joined the company in 2006 as director of sourcing and supply services at Fujitsu Services and became the vice-president of global procurement for Fujitsu in January 2010. Prior to this, he was the director of procurement at Abbey National Group from 2002 until 2006 and has held senior purchasing roles at IBM, SmithKline Beecham and Ford.

In October 2010, Allen told SM:Until recently, the operation I managed at Fujitsu comprised 700 people. It was a challenge to motivate such a large group, where I had no chance of knowing everyone and the range of motivations was so broad.”

In that same interview, Allen said his biggest career achievement to date had taken place at the company. “We (at Fujitsu) took the supply chain function from running at 42 per cent capacity (and potential closure), to 115 per cent (it was extended). Not only did we turn it into a successful part of the business, but we helped to secure the jobs of 250 people in the middle of the recession.”
