Demand for purchasers at all levels of the
profession has increased significantly compared to last year.
According to figures published today by CIPS
and Hays Procurement,
the number of procurement officer jobs has increased by 200 per cent, demand
for senior buyers is up 110 per cent and there were 75 per cent more job
opportunities for procurement managers between April and June this year.
The data also revealed that the number of
procurement jobs offering a salary between £75,000 and £100,000 had increased
by 35 per cent in the first half of 2011.
CIPS CEO David Noble said the increasing
demand was borne out of a need for companies to review their business strategies
in order to reduce costs.
“This entails much more than finding the
cheapest possible solution and needs people with the skills and knowledge to
understand the true value that procurement and supply management professionals
add to the reputation and success of the organisation, along with robust risk
management strategies,” he said.

Procurement, explained that despite rises in unemployment, demand in the
purchasing profession remains high. “While overall unemployment levels have
increased, we continue to see a strong demand for procurement professionals. There
are some exciting procurement roles, but job seekers really need to demonstrate
that they are a solid investment.”
