Ball Packaging Europe (BPE) was named supplier of the year at Coca-Cola’s Sustainability Summit Awards.
The manufacturer, which supplies Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) with more than 2.4 billion cans, won the accolade for driving down the weight of its containers and for its close working relationship with the drinks giant.
BPE vice-president Rob Miles said: “In working with, and for, such a successful company as CCE, we have been able to learn from its achievements and improve our own performance. In recent years sustainability has been a high priority for BPE and we are working hard to continuously improve our products and production processes and to reduce the resources we use to make our cans.”
Haulage company Howard Tenens, based in Gloucestershire, scooped the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability award for helping CCE cut carbon emissions with a sustainable warehouse and duel-fuelled vehicles, which run on diesel and compressed natural gas.
The most improved supplier award went to Ardagh Glass. The Luxembourg firm has taken giant strides in its collaboration with CCE and reduced its bottle weight.
The summit and awards ceremony, held this week in Brussels, was attended by 46 vendor representatives.
Chairman and CEO, John Brock, and the firm’s president of Europe, Hubert Patricot, made the presentations for suppliers who contributed most to the success of CCE’s business in 2009.
