Purchasers’ pay to be made public

1 April 2010

The salary details of public sector buyers across Europe earning more than €50,000 (£44,600) a year will be available online from today in a decision set to shake the profession.

The move comes after a Freedom of Information request was submitted to the Audit Commission last month by Madrid-based organisation Día de los Santos Inocentes (DSI). The group expressed concern that procurement executives were costing the EU public purse too much.

The commission ruled that the information was in the public interest, and DSI was provided with pay details of more than 3,000 UK purchasers at government departments, local authorities and other public bodies.

The information, including basic salary, bonuses and pension contributions, will be made available on www.diadelossantosinocentes.con at noon today. Buyers can opt out of having their details published by emailing rememberthedate@redactive.co.uk
