European iron ore mining company Northland Resources has appointed Peter Pernlöf as vice-president of procurement and energy.

The newly created buying role is one of several senior appointments announced this week.

Pernlöf, who took up the post yesterday, has responsibility for the company’s energy strategy, and for ensuring all product and material purchases meet quality standards. He previously worked as a procurement and energy consultant for the firm.

Prior to that, Pernlöf served as the chief executive officer of Basel, and is also a former vice-president of procurement at Swedish mining and smelting firm Boliden AB, where he spent 10 years.  

Northland Resources’ iron projects are focused in northern Sweden and Finland, and Pernlöf is currently concentrating on procurement for the company’s Kaunisvaara project. This involves the development of magnetite iron ore deposits by the company for a processing facility in Sweden. The company announced the board’s decision on 14 December to begin construction for the Kaunisvaara project.

Karl-Axel Waplan, president and CEO of Northland, said: “We’re rapidly moving from a development company to an iron concentrate producer. These [new senior] appointments strengthen our organisation and allow us to successfully execute our projects.”
