Growth in demand for IT specialists

Demand for procurement professionals at IT consultancies has increased as financial services organisations apply pressure to suppliers to deliver more cost-effective, better quality IT.

Recruitment consultancy Badenoch & Clark made the statement in its Professional Talent Spotlight report for August.

The in-house analysis of recruitment trends in several sectors also revealed a greater need for category specialists.

Nicola Linkleter, managing director, public sector, at Badenoch & Clark explained: “This is because companies are starting to apply pressure on their suppliers to add value to their offering by innovation and services that will that will enable efficiency improvement.”

Other findings showed candidates with a manufacturing or engineering background are in short supply with hiring managers valuing an operational background in their supply chain professionals.

The report also anticipated the current freeze on recruitment in the public sector easing in October when there is likely to be more clarity on the extent of cuts, but pointed out that procurement contractors are currently looking to move across to the private sector.

It added that forthcoming changes to the NHS structure – with budgetary responsibility due to shift to GPs – is unlikely to affect procurement recruitment until early 2012 when the new structure will have bedded in.
