16 July 2010 | Angeline Albert

A former supply supervisor has been jailed for false accounting at the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and must pay back the £7,133.13 he spent.

Paul Herriman, who was a contractor working for Serco at the RAF Spadeadam base in Brampton, Cumbria, pleaded guilty to 13 charges of false accounting at Carlisle Crown Court and was sentenced to 40 weeks in prison on 13 July.

Herriman had been issued a government procurement card at the base but spent the money on himself and must now pay it back to the MoD in the next six months.

Herriman was responsible for authorising the use of all government procurement cards on the base. He is now living in a caravan and is not working.
