Airport procurement chief promoted to MD

15 September 2010 | Angeline Albert

The projects and procurement director at Manchester Airports Group (MAG), Brad Miller, has been promoted to managing director of East Midlands Airport.

He is responsible for the group's capital expenditure programme and procurement team and was instrumental in terminal redevelopments at Manchester in 2009. He was also involved in the £10 million upgrade of the airfield in preparation for a daily service for the Airbus A380 to Dubai.

Miller’s appointment recognises his success in liaising with contractors, designers, architects and surveyors to ensure construction projects for terminals, runways and the airfield are completed on budget.

“I’m obviously very proud to have been chosen as the new MD and I’m looking to grow our market share at East Midlands,” he said. “There’s competition from the likes of Robin Hood Airport and Birmingham but I hope to bring new ideas to the fore and ensure we grow the 4.5 million passenger base we flew to their destinations last year.”

Miller’s appointment starts on 4 October. He succeeds Penny Coates, the former MD of the group’s regional airports, who has been promoted to the role of chief operating officer for MAG. Miller became the youngest member of MAG’s executive committee in March 2009 after just five years with the company.

East Midlands is the UK’s primary freight airport and the base of airfreight operators such as DHL, TNT and UPS. It also acts as a major air hub for the Royal Mail.

MAG is the UK’s largest British-owned airport operator. Its four airports – Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth – get about 24 million passengers every year.
