London’s Crossrail project has appointed Martin Rowark head of procurement.
Rowark, formerly deputy head of purchasing for the London 2012 Olympics, will begin work on 21 December and will be responsible for securing “best value” for goods and services.
He will report to Martin Buck, who joined the £16 billion scheme as commercial director in July. Buck said Rowark brings a “wealth of experience” to Crossrail, having contributed to major rail projects in the past.
Rowark has worked at Railtrack and was head of civil engineering and railways at construction consultancy Davis Langdon, where he was involved in the Channel Tunnel project, among other commissions.
Interim procurement director Steve Rowsell, who SM interviewed earlier this year, is staying on as a consultant to the buying team.
Crossrail, Europe’s largest construction project, is a new, high-frequency railway for London and the South East. It will link Heathrow Airport, the West End, the City of London and Canary Wharf.
