Barclays' new head of global technology sourcing takes up the post this month.

Mike Daly is moving from financial management and advisory firm Merrill Lynch, where he was director of EMEA technology sourcing and global head, sourcing market and referential data services.

He will replace Barclays' former head of IT purchasing John Durrell, who left in November at the same time as former chief procurement officer Kim Godwin (see News, 15 December).

Godwin's successor was named as Jon Kirby from food service company Compass Group. The news came less than a month after Godwin had left.

Daly will report to Paul Freeman, global head of IT infrastructure, and will control around £1 billion of spend.

Daly has more than 20 years' procurement experience. While he was at Merrill Lynch he led a programme to transform the sourcing team.

He was previously global head of IT sourcing for the Deutsche Bank group.

Daly told SM that he was looking forward to taking up his new position with Barclays, which he said was very similar to his role at Deutsche Bank.
