According to author Francis Cholle, we each have our own intuitive compass where reason, instincts, results and play fall along the traditional axis of north, south, east and west. Cholle asks us to assess which quadrant we feel most comfortable in.

He says discovering whether you are a northeast person (motivated by reason and results) or a southwest person (inclined towards instincts and playfulness) will help you “optimise your decision-making process”. However, rather than providing a mechanism or
 a practical approach to
work, the book is more a philosophy for life.

Generally idealistic, it puts an optimistic sheen on how business works. Cholle believes more people should have a playful approach, which he accepts is more risky but believes it delivers better results. On the matter of leadership Cholle is more pragmatic: where you cannot control a situation, influence works better, he says.

The book is suitable for anyone with a leadership capacity and can help buyers reflect on how they deal with suppliers and colleagues.
