This book is about sustainable supply chains and highlights the benefits on the triple bottom line – economic, environmental and social.
The authors analyse the impact of implementing a structured methodology for a green supply chain, identifying both tangible and intangible benefits by different industries.
It explains the key factors by each functional area within the company in terms of best practices, drivers, risks, costs and barriers, extending the analysis along the whole supply chain including customers and suppliers.
It is corroborated by useful practical examples and case studies. Also it tries to answer common questions raised within companies when talking about the benefits of introducing a green supply chain or during the implementation phase as there is always some resistance and reluctance.
I would have preferred the term “sustainable supply chains” rather than “green” as it might remind people of greenwashing and be misinterpreted as looking at only the environmental benefits.
The book is intended for key stakeholders (probably at C-level) who are looking for an overall approach and a tool to generate a more profitable and sustainable business. Procurement and supply chain professionals who are sensitive to sustainability and interested in promoting it along the supply chain with the aim to bring significant savings and assess supply risk will also find it useful.
If your CEO is pressing you to find new and consistent ways to reduce the total cost of ownership, increase your company credibility as well as create a competitive advantage, I strongly recommend this book.
