HEAD OF PROCUREMENT, EUROPE, ALLERGAN, 30
What’s Ronan Carter’s connection to a number of Hollywood celebs? He set up and runs the European procurement department for Allergan, a global pharmaceutical company best known for bringing Botox to the market.
Establishing the function from scratch, which covers $280 million of spend across the continent, Carter has had to overcome the challenge of selling what procurement can do. Beginning with small projects, he built on their success to take on higher-value, business critical areas such as marketing agencies and securing budget for staff. In year one he achieved savings of $7 million (£4.2 million), the following year more than $10 million (£6 million) plus process improvements.
Carter began his procurement career at Ford as a 19-year-old undergraduate on a summer internship. After completing his degree he joined Accenture as a management consultant and then worked for buyingTeam.
