CONTRACTS MANAGER, INTERSERVEFM, 30
“He has a business maturity beyond his years,” is how Antony Faughnan, head of the CIPS construction group, describes Philip Dews. Having held a variety of roles in the sector, Dews was recently elected the industry’s representative on the CIPS council.
“It has given me some real opportunities to discuss the procurement and supply chain role within the construction industry,” he says.
Dews began his career at Mowlem Aqumen as a supply chain analyst, where he set up a new vendor database. Having moved to Carillion he was seconded to work for Monteray, a joint venture between his firm, Haden Building Management and Reliance Facilities Management, that handled a £500 million FM contract for BT. As a buyer for the northern region he saved £100,000 on fleet costs by reviewing vehicles and re-procuring where appropriate.
As a procurement manager at GAJ Construction Dews developed new ways of working, including placing broadband-connected computers on building sites to allow direct requisitioning.
In his current role at Interservefm he is responsible for developing the UK subcontract supply chain, and cites encouraging suppliers to think about sustainability as one of his key issues.
