COMMODITY BUYER, BOMBARDIER TRANSPORTATION, 27
After a short time spent studying, Merry Liu this year became the first person in China to complete her MCIPS.
Liu joined Bombardier Transportation’s international procurement organisation in China in 2005 and has held various posts in the organisation. One was senior buyer (international contract management) for interiors, managing a project involving stakeholders in Europe and China, tracking supply chain performance, analysing ways to improve operations and coaching local suppliers. She says she is particularly proud of the relationships she has developed and maintained with vendors.
Liu has recently been on an assignment for Bombardier in the UK, but her work has also taken her to India, Germany and Belgium. She says this experience has made her aware of differences in the ways countries operate. She says that with more and more companies establishing global sourcing offices in China – or buying indirectly from the region, as well as China’s massive domestic market – her international experience will come in handy.
Liu has also lectured on purchasing and supplier management at the Logistics Institute in Shanghai, where more than 95 per cent of her students passed their exams.
