MANAGING DIRECTOR, AJV CONSULTING, 35
It takes a brave person to launch a business during a recession, but that’s exactly what Amanda Vaughan did.
Having set up her own consultancy last year, she now provides commercial and procurement advice on a managed print contract to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), as well as overseeing suppliers on some of the department’s major IT deals.
Her career has been split between work in the profession and consultancy. As service supplier manager and procurement manager for telecoms at Royal Bank of Scotland, she was responsible for £120 million of IT services contracts. She negotiated on deals worth more than £1 million.
Vaughan says taking a year out to complete her MBA from Edinburgh Management School gave her a broader business knowledge. She singles out Frank Tudor at the DWP for the support and learning opportunities she has been afforded in her role.
