Government IT suppliers to be rated on projects

13 April 2006

IT providers are to be evaluated using a common set of standards under a new strategy to improve the success of major government projects.

Transformational Government - Publication of implementation plan, sets out how the government will procure and manage future IT ventures. Suppliers will also be asked to rate the government as a client for the first time.

A newly created strategic supplier board is to oversee the strategy. It will meet twice-yearly to discuss the capacity and capability of the market and individual suppliers, and plan demand for the six months ahead. A portal to share supplier information will be accessible to 165 public-sector organisations.

Nick Kalisperas, director of markets at trade association Intellect, said suppliers remained "pragmatic" about this new approach. "We are waiting to see how this will be implemented and its effect on suppliers," he said.
