DLO efficiency savings 'cannot be validated'

Over £400 million in Gershon efficiency savings claimed by the Defence Logistics Organisation last year have been dismissed by MPs because they "cannot be validated."

Scrutinising the Ministry of Defence's 2004-05 annual report, the House of Commons Defence Committee said this week its findings were "worrying", adding that overstating the figures "undermines confidence in the accuracy" of the MoD's performance report.

"We expect figures to be based on robust evidence and look to the MoD to introduce systems which can generate accurate figures," the defence committee's report said.

The MPs said they were concerned there was a "real danger" of the MoD not being able to support the front line in an efficient, sustainable and reliable way.

A DLO spokesman told supplymanagement.com that measuring overall efficiency gains is "challenging" but it had systems in place to track them and would continue to improve them to provide robust evidence in the future.
